This activity is appropriate for introductory biology, honors biology, environmental science, and general science courses. It is better used at the end of the unit on evolution and natural selection, after covering speciation. It is not intended as an introductory activity. Students need a working knowledge of these concepts: natural selection, selection pressure, competition, resources, adaptation, fitness, speciation, evolution, variation, mutations, and DNA as the material for inheritance.
