Plan a Dream Vacation - Rates & Unit Rates
This project is great for the start of learning about rates and unit rates. It allows students to plan a vacation within a budget, meanwhile stumbling upon real-life examples of rates and unit rates as they plan and research to complete their planning packet.
I used this project in my classroom this year. It not only introduced the student to real-world examples of rates (which made for great conversations in class), but it also allowed me to learn about their work ethic and strengths/weakness

This is a project based learning activity created for 5th and 6th grade. It may be used for other grades as well. This activity allows students to plan a holiday dinner. They have to choose the items they are going to prepare, determine what ingredients are needed and then calculate how much of each ingredient they will need to purchase. One-Step Equations Webquest 7th Grade Math includes Negatives
Students will need a device for my math webquest on solving one-step equations (including negatives). Students will be given a link that goes to my website containing information about one-step equations. Students will learn: (1) About the four different types of one-step equations, (2) Recap the addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division rules, and (3) Solve one-step equations. I have included a worksheet that aligns to the information on my website. All you need to do is print and go!

A Pet for Patrick Math Project (PBL)
In this small group (or independent) project, students research and calculate the cost of owning a pet. Math skills used include adding, multiplying and dividing whole numbers, decimals, and/or fractions. Writing skills and critical thinking is integrated by having student choose what items to purchase, where to purchase them at the best cost, and create reasons to persuade Patrick's parents to allow him to get a pet.
