Gravity Lab: Calculating Distance in Space
In this lab, students start by measuring how far they can jump on Earth, and then calculate how far they could jump on the different planets and Earth's moon, based on the amount of gravity present on each body. This was a great way to demonstrate the effects of gravity, while also reinforcing the 6th grade math concept of division of decimals. All steps of the scientific method are included, along with a full rubric to assess students' learning.

Students will show the distances of the inner planets from the sun compared to each other. Students will show the revolution of each planet using yarn then hang all 4 pieces next to each other to see the difference in their length.
