Gravity Lab: Calculating Distance in Space
In this lab, students start by measuring how far they can jump on Earth, and then calculate how far they could jump on the different planets and Earth's moon, based on the amount of gravity present on each body. This was a great way to demonstrate the effects of gravity, while also reinforcing the 6th grade math concept of division of decimals. All steps of the scientific method are included, along with a full rubric to assess students' learning.

Lab for students to eat and learn! Students use a party size (halloween kind) bag of m&ms to calculate, convert and graph ratios, decimals and percents of each color of m&ms in the bag.

Easy to incorporate, all you need is a scale! With this lab students weigh four different objects and calculate their weight on the different planets. The formula for calculating weight (mass x gravity = weight) is clearly stated in the directions.
