Students create a flip book using Power Point to discover and/or apply properties of geometric transformations. The student handout provides detailed instructions on how to create the flip book which includes using the “duplicate slide” feature in Power Point. Students are required* to create a minimum of 10 slides with 4 different movements. Students are given the opportunity to choose what type of movements they use within given parameters. This choice provides the opportunity for great di

Math Lab: Terminating and Repeating Decimals/DISTANCE LEARNING/NO PREP

This is a GREAT lab for students to discover the value of patterns in our wonderful world of mathematics! * In the lesson, students DO discover a relationship between fractions and decimals beginning with NINETEEN FRACTIONS THAT STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO DIVIDE THE NUMERATOR BY THE DENOMINATOR ON EACH.* Students learn the meaning of the terms "terminating" and "repeating" relative to decimals.* Students learn how and when it is appropriate to use the bar above repeating decimals. *

After teaching my students about scatterplots, correlation, and the line of best fit, I take a day for them to do a hands-on lab, in which they measure their height (in inches) and their forearm length (from the tip of their elbow, to the bony point on their wrist), and we plot the class data, write the equation of the line of best fit, and then use the equation generated both forwards and backwards. They will need 45 minutes to an hour to do this in class. I have found that if the students br

This lab activity has students compare the work and power they have while walking and running up a flight of stairs. This is a pretty common lab activity, but I just could not find a student handout that had exactly what I was looking for. So, I made this one and hope you will try it out and let me know how it goes! Students will have to measure the distance and time of each trial, and use the work and power formulas. They will also identify the independent variable, dependent variable, cons

Forensic Entomology Lab Investigation: Time Since Death Using Pipe Cleaners

This lab is one of my favorites in Forensic Science! If you are looking for something hands-on that encourages students to analyze data, use scientific practices, then think critically about each death scenario, this lab is for you!The teacher should read this document until the end, which includes an answer key and description of the pipe cleaner "bugs" needed for each case. The students will learn how forensic entomology is used in real crimes, as the age of the larvae found on the body helps

Students will love you after you introduce this activity! Students use colored candies as weight to weigh down a bucket attached to a slinky. Make the buckets using old film cases and wire. Students measure the height of the bucket as they add weight. They are asked to record the data, graph the data, create a line of best fit, write an equation, and answer in-depth questions about the experiment. Take your students on a ride showing them the multiple ways to represent a function!

This lab is meant to launch your Polynomials unit in an Algebra 2 class or an Honors Algebra 1 class. This is a perfect addition to any PrBL/PBL run class. Before teaching students anything, let them explore an application for a polynomial (cubic) function and derive a function themselves. The pre-lab directs students to build an open-face-box out of a single piece of paper with the largest volume possible in any way they choose (do not give them any further directions!). At the end of the pre-l
