A good friend of mine shared this thought with me a few years ago. How can we get our students to use and understand decimals? Help them to apply what they are learning to real - world situations. Since the Presidential Election is quickly approaching, I thought I would put this practice into action.
In this activity, students will be given $1,000 in which they must use to pay for a three day - two night stay in Washington, DC in preparations for the Presidential Inauguration Activities.

Conversion chart used for conversions. I use this with my students to help with the adding and subtracting of zeroes when converting metric units. As you go up the step ladder, you add zeroes, when you go down you subtract the zeroes. This is a tool I print and laminate so that the students may write on it and use it each year.
