This flipchart consists of a mat with an incomplete number sentence _____=____ + ____. This allows the teacher to put in the total amount and have students use the red/ yellow counters to create a problem that matches the total. Students can then write the problem in the blanks to make the number sentence true. The teachers in my building used this as part of their morning calendar routine. Decomposing numbers is a Common Core skill that is difficult for many students to understand.
