Hey TPTers! My name is Ms. May! I began my teaching journey in an 8th grade U.S. history classroom and quickly fell in love with teaching history. Since then, I've taught 9th grade and 11th grade American History as well as 12th grade Honors and AP psychology. This upcoming school year I will be taking on U.S. Government and Politics as well as Sociology.
I've been told both formally and informally that my teaching style is engaging, innovative and hands on. I pride myself on my creativity and ability to really make history come "alive" for my students. You would very rarely find me lecturing at the front of the room for an entire class period (though necessary at the AP/high school level... at times) becuase I truly belive that learning happens by doing. I let my students be in charge of their own learning, I facilitate discussions, debates, and have fun every single day. I hope that my lesson plans and activities inspire you to do the same. History does not have to be boring! When parents ask their kids what they learned in school today the answer will NOT be "nothing!"
Yet to be added
I graduated from West Chester University with a Bachelor's degree in history and secondary education along with a minor in American Studies. I am certified in the state of PA to teach Social Studies grades 7-12. I am currently pursuing my Master's degree in Education with a concentration in American Studies (History and English/Literature based, this time!) which will be completed by 2018. I truly am a lifelong learner and hope to one day be a professor.
One thing I noticed about the wonderful TPT community and teacher bloggers/vloggers out there is that there are tons and tons of awesome resources for the younger grades; but there seems to be a lack of resources shared for secondary teachers. I decided to give this a go-- I spend hours creating resources for my own classrooms, I might as well share! I hope you enjoy my creations and I hope to hear from you soon! Here's to another awesome school year!
