I have been a classroom teacher for thirteen academic years and have taught a variety of subjects including middle school history, APUSH, American government, economics (American, IGCSE, and IB), Information and Communication Technology, middle school science, biology, humanities, health and wellness, and study skills. I have taught in public schools in the Dallas, Texas area, independent schools in Atlanta and the SF Bay Area, and an international school in Istanbul, Turkey.
I'm a low-key teacher with high expectations. I work to design strong lessons that keep engaged bell to bell. I am an avid user of technology and write many lessons that take advantage of being in 1:1 environments. I also love weaving current events and pop culture into lessons to help learners see the relevance of their learning. As a history teacher, I work to help kids answer the guiding question, "How does the past help us understand the way the world works today?" I believe we have a responsibility to students, each other, and our posterity to teach from a social justice perspective and get to the real history rather than skimming the surface or, worse, presenting white-washed or fairy tale stories about the past.
