TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have 13 years of experience in mathematics education. I have experience as an instructional coach, interventionist and a director of mathematics education. I have built curriculum, assessments and have done extensive research in the Common Core State Standards, to include research completed for my dissertation. My goal to provide ready to use resources for teachers that are aligned to the Common Core State Standards and emphasize the Math Practices.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I want to make math easy for students. I develop my lessons to focus on building those foundational skills, so that the more complex skills come easier. My lessons are often scaffolded to ensure that all students can succeed. Sequencing and conceptual structures are key to the products that I use to teach. My first priority is alignment to the standards to make sure that my students are achieving at the highest level. Once the standard has been examined, my next thought is student engagement. How will I engage students in this content? When students are engaged, they learn.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I spent 8 years in the USAF as a Bio-Environmental Engineer. It was wonderful to use my math skills in a different setting. I brought many of the math problems that I encountered to my students to solve. They loved being able to use their math is a "real life" setting.
