For the past two years, I have been teaching at an elementary school in a large city. My school services a high population of students from low-income families and a large percentage of students from military families. In the past, I taught Third and Fourth Grades as well. I also have experience teaching English as a Foreign Language abroad in Chengdu, China.
I am practical with my students because I really want to show them how the world works. I love them as if they were my own. I also give them tough love when they need it. I love literacy, and my goal is to implement cross-curricular literacy. I plan develop tools to support other teachers who want to do the same. My belief is that this will help the next generation become better readers and writers as they learn about the world around them and vice versa.
My graduate research study on Reflective Learning was featured at the National Youth At-Risk Conference in Savannah, Georgia during the Spring of 2018.
I have a BSE in Early Childhood Education and an MEd in Reading Specialist Education, both from Armstrong Atlantic State University in Savannah, Georgia.
My husband and I are the proud parents of two wonderful dogs named Captain and Roxie. Captain is a Border Collie mix and Roxie is an American Pit Bull Terrier. We love taking them for long walks in the park. We also enjoy taking the boat out on a beautiful day. My passion is for education. My co-workers make fun of me because I have been known to say "I love making worksheets!" I'm a beginner though, so please give me kind, but honest, feedback so that I can improve as much as possible!
