TEACHING EXPERIENCE

The majority of my students are English Language Learners (ELLs) with special needs. As a result, I have to accommodate their diverse learning styles. I create graphic organizers and worksheets that follow the sixth grade curriculum but that allow my students entry into grade level activities. I fight everyday to empower my students with the confidence they need to overcome educational barriers. Common Core has made literacy the focus in the social studies classroom. In addition, a new sixth grade social studies curriculum was created for NYC schools. These two educational standards are obstacles for my students. My job is to breakdown these barriers allowing my students to achieve and excel in school. My students aim to please and go above and beyond what is expected of them.
