20 years in education as a teacher and administrator within diverse urban and suburban public and private schools.
I am trying my darndest to move away from the sit n' git style of teaching toward more student ownership and involvement. That said, I am still a big believer in engaging students in a lot of reading and writing, ideally in an environment where they motivate and assist each other with sense making, inquiry, and answers to tough questions that don't always have a "right" answer.
Most Inspiring Teacher of the Year - Nicholas Senn High School, Chicago, IL, 85% student pass rate on AP World History Exam, Fulbright Scholar (Summer teacher study abroad)
Ohio State University - B.A. Harvard University - M.Ed. University of Wisconsin - Ph.D.
I have worked with a wide range of students, racially, socio-economically, urban & suburban, public & private, across the United States and in Mexico. I love making social studies relevant for my students, and pushing them to be critical thinkers who strive to make sense of their world and make it a better place. I am also a husband and father. Ideally, someday I may find that sweet spot where I am both an awesome teacher and family man.
