Shark Tank Project - Week Plus -Students make product study macro micro Econ/Biz

This shark tank project is designed to assist students in thinking through their Shark Tank product or service idea through various micro and macro economic lenses, including market, product differentiation, market structure, capital/human/natural resources, manufacturing, global logistics, marketing, etc. Students begin the project by thinking about consumer needs and wants and how the market is or is not meeting them. They then brainstorm products they might develop to fill a new niche and are required to examine that product and its development through various macro and micro economic and business lenses. They have to fill in a chart that scaffolds these concepts for them. They have to create a 30 second video advertisement that thoughtfully mixes logic with emotion. They have to develop and practice a pitch, ideally made to volunteer sharks (in my school those sharks are administrators, counselors, students from other classes, etc.). Students have to practice their pitch and fill out a form as they do. Sharks are given a rubric and are then asked to make or not make an offer for the students' company. Post presentation, their peers in the room fill out a form that further reflects on the presenting group's work. Most of my students do this as part of a three to four person group. I teach particular concepts as the project moves along.
