I have taught junior high mathematics for over a decade and had a quick foray into high school for one year. Junior high (grades 7-9) is truly where my heart lies. I have also been the Math Curriculum Specialist for my district for two years. I love developing truly engaging math curriculum for all levels of students - I have taught the entire spectrum (from ESL to honors) and truly strive to incorporate best teaching practices for all.
I love to present students with different tasks, have them try the problem, then pull their papers and share their amazing ideas with the class. I like to act as a facilitator to ensure that students are getting the concepts they need, but getting them from each other. Then I follow these tasks with solidifying notes that are a bit more guided by me and easy for students to follow. Finally, I utilize numerous activities to allow the students to have in-class practice before they are expected to do it on their own.
