I have taught professionally for several years in the District of Columbia. Before moving to DC, I volunteered throughout college teaching English/Language Arts to 8th graders at Breakthrough Atlanta, housed at The Lovett School, and to 7th graders at Breakthrough Norfolk, housed at Norfolk Academy.
I spend most of my time teaching building on the constructivist teaching practices I learned in undergraduate school and the inquiry-based processes I learned about in graduate school. So, I work to encourage risk and productive talk among my students so that they may develop their own ideas and opinions about their place in the world they live in. Since I have worked exclusively with Black and brown urban students, I use specific and consistent scaffolding strategies to build literacy, social skills, and academic confidence in my kids.
