TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began teaching in Canada through the public school system and taught High School English and History to students with diverse backgrounds. Teaching then brought me abroad for three years at an International School in Bangkok, Thailand. My students were English Language Learners and Native Speakers alike, and I taught a range of ages and subjects at the Intermediate Level that included Science, Sociology, Literature and Advanced Placement Language and Composition. I now teach in my home city and finished the school year in a Special Education classroom in a Toronto High School.

MY TEACHING STYLE

A respectful, inclusive, and collaborative learning environment is a priority in my classroom. I promote this in my resources by including opportunities for respectful interaction and student-centered discussion around curriculum content. Critical thinking is also one of the most essential skills cultivated in my lessons; I'm always challenging my students to confirm how they know what they know, and to rely on trusted sources to support their findings. These foundations offer the safety to adequately explore social responsibility and instill values of global citizenship in our students.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I received my Bachelor of Arts Honors from Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, Majoring in English and Minoring in History. I was a student in the Concurrent Education Program, and taught in a variety of classrooms during my undergraduate degree, including Elementary, High School, Student Success and Experiential classrooms. I received my Bachelor of Education from Queen's University through the Concurrent Education Program with a specialization in Environmental Education. I later completed my Additional Qualification in Special Education and Teaching Students With Behavioural Needs. I am Google Certified Level 1 and have received training from the College Board for Advanced Placement Language and Composition and Advanced Placement Literature. I completed my 200 YTT in 2017 with Zuna Yoga in Bali, Indonesia.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I currently live in Toronto, Canada and spend my free time enjoying live music, scouring vintage and antique shops, cooking Thai food and riding my Miyata cycle. I also love being outside as much as possible! I love animals and have a 16-year-old German Shepphard / Lab rescue and an 8-year-old Havana rabbit. I'm a fanatic for literature and love reading non-fiction and fiction alike! I like to rotate through a few books at one time. Right now I am reading George Orwell's "1984," Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth" and Niel Degrasse Tyson's "Astrophysics for People in a Hurry."
