I have been teaching for 10 years. During my ten year adventure I have worked as an elementary school classroom teacher, elementary science specialist at a Title one school and a middle school classroom teacher. I have settled into teaching middle school because I really love seeing students feel successful in science and I love the awkwardness of middle school students.
My teaching inspiration is the one and only Miss Frizzle. She has amazing enthusiasm that is contagious to even the most reluctant learners. No one leaves her class without learning and feeling good bout their experience.
I have achieved awards such as the Lead Teacher status and several curriculum development awards over the years. My biggest honor took place this year when my past students came back to visit and told me they remembered what I taught them and it was helping them in high school biology.
I completed my undergraduate work at the University of Delaware where I majored in elementary education. As soon as I started teaching middle school I wanted to expand my science background and completed my masters through Walden University in Middle School Science Instruction.
I have served at a high needs school during all my years of teaching. I pride myself in finding ways to make science accessible for all students. I have seen great success with ESOL and struggling readers with games and experiences that build science vocabulary.
