I started my teaching career in 2006. The majority of my career has been spent teaching PreK-6 general music/music appreciation and choir. I am the music department team leader and I am passionate about supporting new music teachers in their classroom pursuits. I am a mainstreaming specialist - I host students from our self-contained special education classrooms in my general education music classes. My lessons and activities are adaptive, inclusive, and accessible to ALL students. I am also an International Baccalaureate educator. I regularly incorporate IB Key Concepts and integrate into the six transdisciplinary themes. I LOVE integrating technology into my lessons. Many of my activities are SMART Notebook files to be used on SMART boards. I also have Google Docs, Slides, and Forms which can seamlessly be integrated into Google Classroom.
I like to give my students a wide variety of activities each class. We read music, play instruments, improvise, sing solfege (with Kodaly hand signs), explore movement, listen, and critique on a regular basis. I want to provide my students with the fundamentals of music in their elementary years to prepare them for middle school music electives. I encourage students to try new activities, improvise, and compose by starting with small, reachable goals and giving them the courage to forge ahead. My classroom is a place of inclusion and exploration. Together, we learn about cultures and music from around the world using primary sources and authentic musical examples. We learn about ourselves, celebrate each other, experiment with new content, and explore the world together through music.

I graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelors in music education. I earned my masters degree in K-12 educational leadership and administration from Eastern Michigan University.
Outside of being a music teacher I dabble in a few hobbies. I sail (small boats), garden (both veggies and flowers), play escape rooms, and arrange flowers. I LOVE learning. The joke around out house is if we had unlimited money, I would wallpaper our house with diplomas.
