I taught French (and sometimes English) for 15 years in a small rural high school. I've also conducted two student exchanges between my students and high schools in France, and I've taken students to France with a tour company twice. I'm now retired, but still design some lessons from time to time just to keep my hand in. Now that I have the time, I've been able to fine-tune some units for you that I never had the time to do before. Please enjoy the fruits of my labor and experience!
I always taught French using eclectic methods, with a strong focus on oral fluency. When I discovered TPRS around 2010, I realized that it was what I wanted to do. It gives fluency and comprehension quickly and easily. It gave my students amazing skills fast, and it is a lot of fun!
I've been named "Most Influential Teacher" twice by former students who attend a local state college.
I began to learn French in 4th grade (twice a week for 20 minutes) in a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. That method was total immersion. In Junior High we continued with traditional methods, and I hated it. My family moved halfway through junior high, and at my new school, students were just beginning in French, and the method used was the old filmstrip/tape method called "Son et lumiere". Since I knew the introductory material, I concentrated on the teaching method and the student reactions, and set my sights on becoming a French teacher. I began my college French on the 300 level, and got a double major in French and English education.
I've always enjoyed designing curriculum! I am also an avid reader, an adoring grandmother, and a dog lover and dog obedience trainer.
