TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I began my professional teaching career in 2004. I have experience teaching in four different states (OH, AZ, NV, FL) and multiple subjects and grade levels. I have student-teaching experience teaching grades 5 and 6 in all content areas. Professionally, I have taught 6th grade math (regular, advanced, Math 180 Intensive, and co-teach/FUSE), 7th grade math (regular, co-teach/FUSE, and honors/gifted), 8th-grade pre-Algebra, 8th grade Algebra I, 8th grade Intro to Geometry and Statistics (self-created course), 7th grade Language Arts (co-teach/FUSE and honors), 9th grade English I (co-teach/FUSE and honors), 10th grade English II Honors, Advanced Communications Methodology (9th grade), 12th grade English 4, Semantics and Logic (9th grade), and I have multiple years of co-teaching experience (ESE inclusion in regular ed classroom). I have used a variety of curricula: Connected Math, SpringBoard (ELA and Math), Go Math!, I Can Learn (Lab), Prentice Hall, Math 180, and others. I did my honors thesis in college on Gardner's Theory of Multiple Intelligences and my Master's thesis on the effects of the Hispanic culture on education in America's highly Hispanic populated cities. For my research on this thesis, I traveled to Concepcion, Chile and taught at an English-speaking Chilean K-12 school for a month.

From May 2013 to July 2015, I worked in my district's Assessment and Accountability office with the Race to the Top grant. As a coordinator in this office, I worked with the district supervisors for secondary (6-12) English/Language Arts (general ed. and ESOL), along with CTE (Career and Technical Ed, specifically FCS: Family and Consumer Sciences) and Art to build district assessments like semester exams. I then performed a variety of test item analyses looking at item validity and identifying errors and other various issues with individual questions and entire tests. This position integrated Reading/Language Arts with statistics and gave me a unique perspective on the different facets of education.

I have been back in the classroom since 2015. For the 2019-2020 school year, I will be my school's 6th, 7th, and 8th-grade intensive math teacher using IXL and a 6th-grade Social Studies (Geography and Ancient World History) teacher. I can't wait to create Social Studies resources for teachers!

On a personal note, I have three incredible children who educate me every day. I am also a massive Harry Potter fan and a published author. As an undergrad and graduate alumnae of The Ohio State University, I enjoy watching sports - most especially football and basketball.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Multiple Intelligences approach with student-centered learning. Direct (teacher-directed) instruction when necessary. Integrated curriculum approach. Differentiated instruction focus. Cooperative learning where appropriate and possible. Flipped classroom when appropriate and possible. Digital teaching when appropriate and possible.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

Graduated Magna Cum Laude, with honors (Undergraduate); National Board Certified Teacher (EA/ELA)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated in June 2003 with a B.S. in Human Ecology from The Ohio State University. I followed that up with an August 2004 Master's degree in Middle Childhood Education, also from The Ohio State University.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am currently certified Middle Grades (5-9) Integrated Curriculum, 6-12 English, and 6-12 Math for the state of Florida, and endorsed in ESOL and Gifted (state of FL).
