TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I worked in publishing for seven years before becoming a teacher. I've been teaching for 6 years...3 at a Junior High, and 3 at a High School in high poverty areas. In these 6 years, I have taught ESL in a variety of settings, from whole-class instruction, to co-teaching, to small group. Small group is definitely my preference, and it's what I think works best for ESL students. I'm also an author. My first book, Teaching to the Child, is a memoir of my experiences teaching ESL in NYC. My second book, Welcome to Motherhood, consists of funny, reassuring, and sentimental poems for new moms. My most recent 2 books are picture books that inspire to make learning about Earth and recycling fun. Visit LoriFettner.com for more info!

MY TEACHING STYLE

I believe teaching should be fun, both for the teacher and students. I try to incorporate elements of art and music in my lessons whenever possible. I also love to write, and try to instill this love of writing in my students, which is hardly ever easy! I believe the classroom should be a place of mutual respect, and make this a priority that goes far above things like standards, common core, and testing! Visit LoriFettner.com for more info!
