Description

Journalism Course Outline
This outline is for a high school journalism elective. The semester is broken down into 5 units:
1. Learning all of the jobs required to put together a school paper (writing, photography, editing, etc.)
2. Law and ethics
3. Developing a journalistic style
4. The role of journalism in society
5. Careers in Journalism

A school paper is published at the conclusion of each unit.

The outline begins with a course overview that includes research on the positive effects of students learning about journalism and working on a school paper. This is followed by a detailed description of each unit, including essential questions, Common Core Standards, and unit vocabulary.

Journalism Syllabus
The syllabus includes a course description, overview of activities, grading policy (divided into formative versus summative assessment), as well as what is required of students, my make up work policy, and expectations. There is a space on the syllabus for students to set a goal and action plan for their work in the course.

The syllabus and course outline were approved by my school's administrators and given to students and parents at the beginning of the school year/semester. Each item is also sold separately. Click on the above titles to see the product listings.
