TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Five years teaching literature and culture of ancient civilizations, 20th/21st century cultural literature, philosophy, and AP Literature.

MY TEACHING STYLE

Very relaxed classroom, very student centered. Has a Montessori feel to it. Mostly Socratic discussions and lectures used to lead into the discussions. Always leave time (5-10 min) at the beginning of class and at the end of class for kids to prep and for kids to unwind. Sure it reduces the time of teaching, but students don't need more time in class, they need quality time. Don't worry about the tests, if you're stressed, the kid'll be stressed. teach a kid well and he or she will do just fine.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Graduated from Case Western Reserve University with a BA in English and graduation from American University with a MAT in education. My fondest memories of school were the portions spent in Montessori education. One of my favorite systems of education.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I write for a travel blog. Take students quite frequently abroad. Trying to write my own novel. My goal is to get an 80% pass rate on the AP Lit exam. Last year was 74% (students scoring a 3 or higher). I bike everywhere and wish I lived on a beach.
