Description

For all the years I have been teaching AP Literature, I've used the same syllabus with minor tweaks. I was able to do that easily because I had taught those students as freshmen and, sometimes, as sophomores. This meant they were already given the basic tools I needed them to have before they joined AP Literature. My average pass rate, as a result, is 75% (that is 75% of my students pass the exam with a 3 or higher), with the 2018-2019 class tying for the highest rate of 80%.

School year 2019-2020 will be different, I've never taught any of these kids before. I don't know if they have the skills I need them to have. So I've created an AP Literature syllabus that address that: The Skills Building Syllabus.

This syllabus is designed to guide students through AP Literature slowly and steadily. Students may need to build up their skills to fully grasp high level literature and this syllabus takes them a story at a time in the first unit, focusing on specific literary devices for each story, breaking the novel down into smaller units, choosing literature that is more relevant to their lives (a particular novel and a play from the 90s that is relevant now), and breaks up any monotony with assignments designed to show how AP Literature is actually relevant to their everyday lives.

I will be modeling this syllabus for those who request it. Send me a message after purchase and I can help guide you through the syllabus. Teaching Packages will also go along with each week to help and this will be available on line as well.
