TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Six years of teaching experience in grades 8-12. Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Trigonometry, Calculus, Financial Literacy

MY TEACHING STYLE

In my classroom, we've completely done away with the textbooks. In 2011, I began using a program called Accelerated Math by Renaissance Learning. The program has completely revolutionized the way we do things in the classroom ever since. The program has allowed me to create my own library of objectives related to the curriculum. After teaching short power lessons to the students using notes that I created for the particular objective of the day, the student begin working on their assignments using a class set of tablet. That's right.... no paper. All their work is done on the Accelerated Math program. After they successfully complete assignments over the objectives, they earn the ability to test over those objectives and prove that they actually can do it on their own without any notes or help. This allows students to work and progress through the material at their own pace. It's the classroom of the future and being a part of it makes me excited to come to work everyday and see what happens next.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

In addition to my interest in education, I have several other hobbies and activities that I am involved with outside of my occupation. I enjoy both art and music. I enjoy drawing, painting, and especially music. I learned to play the piano at an early age and later developed skills as a drummer and guitarist. I currently play the guitar, keyboard and sing with my rock band, Simpleton, which is based out of Stillwater, OK. During the spring and summer, we travel and perform around Oklahoma and the surrounding states. We have also released two full length albums that are available in iTunes. In the future, I plan to acquire certifications in Art, Music, and History that will allow me to teach these interests in class in addition to the mathematics classes that I already teach. This summer I started a website for my classroom experience called The Jones Academy of Mathematics. Be sure to check it out for video lessons, classroom ideas, and more.
