Algebra I Bell Ringer Packet (Complete Second 9 weeks) Do Now Problems

This packet contains daily bell ringer assignment problems (Monday-Thursday) for Algebra I students. This packet covers the entire second nine weeks of the school year (plus an extra week if your school calendar has ten weeks during the period). The daily assignment problems come from a collection of sources that I have gathered over the years. Some of the problems are directly related to standardized test questions that the students may see on an "end of instruction" exam. Some of the problems are fun puzzles that require the students to use algebraic thinking in order to solve. And some problems are over remedial math topics to keep the students fresh on important concepts such as fractions and number sense.

As the students get further along in the packet, the questions will grow in difficulty along with the content being taught in Algebra I. I print off this packet before school starts and hand it to the student on the first Monday of the school year. Each period, once the bell rings for class, the expectation is that the students will be in their seats and be working on the problem for the day. I usually give the students 2-4 minutes to work on the packet depending on the difficulty of the problem. The problem will also be projected up on the board just in case a student forgets what day or week we are working on in the packet. I only use the bell ringer packet on Monday through Thursday because we have a different structure on Fridays. Usually Fridays would be a test or quiz day and the students understand that when the bell rings on Friday, it's time for them to be prepared for their quiz or test so that they can maximize the amount of time they have to work on it.
