This is Twain’s first hit and one of his most anthologized and memorable short stories. It was an instant classic and remains as playfully implausible as ever. The story is replete with the ethos of a gambling culture that typifies the Wild West.

Twain is at his amusing and sardonic best here with his "Ghost Story." Twain dabbles in the Romantic style of writing to set up his ghost story, but soon shifts to his familiar tongue-in-cheek, unabashed realism. His speaker soon lets the clumsy

Mark Twain's "A Fable" is a satirical piece that amuses and instructs readers about how our perceptions of what we see in literature or art are often clouded by ourselves -- our preconceived ideas and our imagination. I've taken Twain's "A Fable"

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've taught all grades between 6th and 12th, except for 7th, but also on the community college level since 1984. Uploading curriculum onto TpT makes me anticipate suggestions, think through assignments more fully, and expect more from my activities or assessments.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I value having students engaged with each other and in their learning -- especially through presentations and skits -- and in using technology in the classroom.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

I've received three NEH fellowships to study Hamlet, King Lear and Malory's King Arthur legends.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I graduated with an English Major from St. Michael's College in VT and a Masters in Creative Writing from NYU in New York City. I consider myself a writer, a teacher, and coach.
