TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have been a professional teacher for 14 years. But, I have taught my entire life in one capacity or another. I have worked with students in PreK through 12th grade and have taught adults as well. I have spent most of my time in the classroom working with twice-exceptional and gifted students. I have also worked with students who were years behind in the same classroom as students who were years ahead. I have worked in public, private, and charter schools across the country. I. am currently working at a private Montessori Infant - 6th grade school.

MY TEACHING STYLE

... it's not just learning that's important. It's learning what to do with what you learn and learning why you learn things that matter. ~Norton Juster In my Classroom: Students are cared for and valued. Their ideas, thoughts, and actions are important to me. No matter who they are or where they come from, all are welcome. Students can expect: ~We will use what we read and learn to create new, original ideas. ~Students will learn at their own pace through mastery-based instruction. ~Social and emotional learning, diversity, equity, and inclusion will all be embedded throughout the course. What I expect from students: ~Students will own your learning and your actions. ~Students will learn from failure. ~Students will try first, then ask for help. ~Students will keep asking, "What else can I learn?"

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I have a Bachelor's and Master's degree in Elementary Education from Chatham University in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. I have a Doctorate in Instructional Leadership K-12 from Argosy University in Phoenix, Arizona. My dissertation focused on asynchronous development in children, what teachers know about it, and how teachers address the difficulties that come with asynchronous development in their classrooms.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I am a parent to 5 amazing kids. They all have their unique challenges ranging from prematurity, to anxiety, to autism spectrum disorder. I am a planning addict, avid reader of Young Adult literature, and am working hard on writing a book about self-paced, standards-mastery-based instruction.
