This handout contains a thorough list of character traits and tone words to help enhance their literary-analysis vocabulary. I compiled this list for use with my 10th graders, but it can certainly be used for any secondary grade level.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've taught high school for 13 years in two very different schools (one rural, lower-income and one suburban, more affluent). I've taught a range of grades: on-level 9th, honors 9th, on-level 10th, honors 10th, on-level 12th, and AP English Language and Composition.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I consider myself a pretty tough teacher with high but realistic expectations. I like to incorporate a variety of assessments in to my curriculum, rather than focusing just on tests. This means lots of creative, constructive stuff in addition to presentation and performance-type assignments when applicable. I also try to include a variety of instructional methods, so I use a variety of individual and groupwork lessons.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

For the past past 2 school years, I have been a finalist for Teacher of the Year. I've also won a few smaller, school-wide awards.

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

I earned both my BA in English and my MAT in English Education from Georgia State University. I have also earned gifted endorsement and have completed training to teach AP Lang.
