I began my career as a high school Living Environment (Biology) and Chemistry teacher. I had also previously completed my student teaching and two long-term sub positions at this level. I then moved to 5th and 6th grade middle school science. Currently, I am in my third year teaching upper-level electives to 11th and 12th graders. These include AP/IB Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, and Environmental Science.
My classroom has a major focus on inquiry and problem-based learning. Students do a great deal of exploration in teams. Projects range from simply recording observations, to researching and reporting, to debating a relevant topic of interest. I also pride myself on an ability to differentiate instruction so that students of varying abilities can achieve success in Science. More importantly, the instructions meets the needs of various students in a way that all hearts and minds are captured, thereby fostering a love of Science.
I am a member of Kappa Delta Pi and continue to attend NAIS workshops on an annual basis.
I completed my BS Biology with a minor in Chemistry at Nazareth College of Rochester. There, I also earned initial NYS certification. Soon after I finished my Chemistry degree and earned certification in that area. I completed my MS Special Education at Utica College which has allowed me to differentiate in a way that meets the needs of all my students so each can enjoy and appreciate science.
