What educators are saying
My students used this as a starting point to gather research and then design anchor charts. I used it as a fast finisher and enrichment project.
Description
Objective: Students will research an alternative source of energy and sharing the advantages and disadvantages of it.
Instructions for students: Your group will be assigned a form of alternative energy (wind power, solar power, nuclear energy, geothermal energy, hydroelectric, fuel cells, etc). You must research this source of energy. Use the internet, electronic databases, the library, or interviews. Then, summarize the information you have gathered into three sections:
(1) A brief description of the energy. You may include the history of when humans began to use it. Be sure to discuss how it works.
(2) List the advantages (pros) of the energy source.
For example, is it a form of “green” energy because it does not burn fossil fuels or release greenhouse gases?
(3) List the disadvantages (cons) of the energy source.
For example, is it difficult to store? Are the start-up costs expensive?
Lastly, you may want to add interesting statistics, “factoids,” or images to give your poster an appealing look. See below for a suggested format.
