TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I've taught Special Education (resource and co-taught) classes in both junior high and high school settings for the past 7 years. I've worked with grades 7-12 and truly enjoy helping these young adults prepare to be successful after high school. My focus has been in math (Math Basic Skills, Intermediate Math 1, Intermediate Math 2, Algebra 1, and Secondary Math 1)- the skills developed in these classes are essential life skills.

MY TEACHING STYLE

It's been said that all good teachers have "OCD"- I'm not referring to obsessive-compulsive disorder, although I'm sure we all have a little bit of that, as well. OCD, to me, stands for Organization, Concrete, and Direct. My teaching style's foundation is firmly grounded in these three concepts. Organization- I need to be organized with my scope and sequence, but I also want my students to develop organization skills. Concrete- I want students to see the connection and relevance between what they are learning in my classroom and the "real" world. Direct- I want to make the concepts I teach clear and concise. I don't want students to guess, I want them to gain confidence and mastery.
