Description

My students love practicing how to evaluate expressions using this Super Mario Bros. Speed Math Game.

Here's the rundown – students will race each other through the Mario Expressions Game Board. They will need a counter or token to use as their game piece and they will need a die to roll. In order for the student to move along the game board, he or she must roll the die and substitute the number he or she rolls for the "x" value. Then the student must evaluate the expression to determine how many spaces he or she gets to move.

I love watching my students get completely engaged and competitive in this review game – they like it so much they forget they are doing math! It's so fun to hear their frustrations as they land on a turtle shell and have to move back 2 spaces or they land on the dreaded pipe that sends them back to the start!

Also included in this download is a scaffolded recording sheet to help students show their work when they evaluate expressions and it also reminds them how to play the game and how many spaces they can move.
