I have ten years of experience teaching writing and grammar to 4th-8th grade scholars. My biggest and most rewarding challenge as a teacher was relocating from my urban Chicago classroom to small-town life in Colorado!
Student choice furthers investigation of ideas and crafting of writing. Students identify individual topics for research, use flexible seating options and movement breaks to maximize productivity, and have options for getting feedback from their peers. I favor a modified workshop model for instruction which ensures that students are engaged in creation and collaboration for the majority of their time in my room.
Each year my students become published authors and invited speakers as they share their work through anthologies, local media, and national contests. My proudest moments are hearing their writing shared at venues such as city-wide poetry contests or at the Veterans Day Observance at Arlington National Cemetery.
I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame and hold a Masters in Education and Social Policy from Northwestern University.
I was raised in Delaware and absolutely love the beach! I formed my passion for education in the city and have made a home on the High Plains.
