TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have taught English for the past twelve years in a variety of grade levels (11th, 12th, college level), but most of my career has been spent in the AP English world of Literature and Language. As a published poet myself, I also teach creative writing workshops around the country.

MY TEACHING STYLE

I am passionate about creating materials that are thoughtfully differentiated, student centered, and highly engaging. I want my classroom to offer students something new every day. When my lessons are at their strongest, students are doing the heavy lifting and I am coaching them to produce their best academic work.

HONORS/AWARDS/SHINING TEACHER MOMENT

National Poetry Series Winner (2011) Kinder Award Winner for Excellence in the Classroom YES Prep Advanced Teacher C&R Poetry Prize (2020) IPPY Gold Medal (2021)

MY OWN EDUCATIONAL HISTORY

Bachelors of English (Creative Writing) from Florida State University. Masters of Creative Writing (Poetry) from the University of Houston.

ADDITIONAL BIOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION

I have taught Literature, Rhetoric, and Creative Writing for 16 wonderfully rewarding years. Now, I work on the Partnerships team for NoRedInk, which I love because I have the opportunity to share a game-changing writing curriculum with school leaders across the country. I am also a published poet with two award-winning collections: The Lifting Dress (Penguin 2011) and The Rented Altar (C&R Press, 2020). Connect with me at poetlaurenberry.com!
