TEACHING EXPERIENCE

I have just completed my fifth year in the classroom with four years at the middle level (8th grade) and one year at the high school level. This was my first year teaching A.P. U.S. History and I spent a significant amount of time in planning and preparing materials for that course in particular, but I have experience in core U.S. History, Government, and Sociology.

MY TEACHING STYLE

My teaching style is student-centered. I favor active learning strategies in collaborative groups. With most of the assignments and activities I give to my students, there is a group component to completing the exercise. I believe strongly that students learn at higher rates through discussion with their peers and in the benefits of peer discussion in helping struggling learners master the standards. I view myself as a facilitator of learning rather than as a dispenser of learning.
