Description

Deepfakes are becoming an increasingly complex ethical and global issue that we need to be discussing with our English B students. This resource allows you to not only do that, but also develop writing skills; perfect for Paper 1 practice.

This resource combines thorough exam preparation with something your students will actually want to write about, allowing them to develop creative & critical thinking skills.

This resource includes:

  • A complete practice Paper 1 for English B HL, with 3 writing prompts about deepfakes
  • Three choices of text types for each prompt, just like the real exam
  • Detailed Paper 1 Rubrics: Criterion A Language, Criterion B Message & Criterion C Conceptual understanding
  • Clarification for Criterion C: extra information for teachers about the correct choice of text type, tone, register and conventions

How it works:

Students choose one writing prompt from three tasks about deepfakes. They then decide which is the best text type for them to write in, from a list of three options. They write a text type between 450 - 600 words.

The text types choices in this resource are social media post, blog, email, proposal and set of instructions.

Benefits:

No preparation required! Just print the resource or share it digitally

✅ Rubrics provide option of making this formative or summative assessment

Same number of prompts, word count and rubrics as Paper 1 HL English B

International-mindedness: use this resource to discuss the global issue of deepfakes, as well as privacy, ethics and technological innovation.

✅ You can use this resource to explore all of the the English B prescribed themes:

  • how deepfakes affect victims sense of self and "identity"
  • "experiences" of victims of deepfake videos and how their life is affected
  • how artistic expression is affected by deepfakes as part of "human ingenuity"
  • how rules and regulations are being brought in to combat deepfakes as part of "social organisation"
  • and ethical issues linked to artificial intelligence and deepfakes as part of "sharing the planet".
