Description
Look no further for your English B HL unit on Deepfakes!
We've all laughed at the funny deepfake videos we can make, where we put our faces on celebrity or movie stars, but have your explored the deeper, global issues that deepfakes bring with your students?
This bundle includes:
- a introductory, inquiry activity where students must justify their answers
- reading comprehension practice for Paper 2
- listening comprehension practice for Paper 2
- writing prompts for a complete practice for Paper 1
- a Socratic Seminar to develop speaking skills in a formal context
- central concept of deepfakes: a global issue we need to be discussing with our students
- opportunities for students to make multiple real-life connections.
These resources are perfect for when you need to hone the required skills for Papers 1 and 2, but are bored with the past papers on offer.
With this deepfake bundle, your students can prepare for their English B HL external assessment, while still having opportunities to make connections and reflect critically as overarching concept of deepfakes links all of these resources together.
How it works:
Resource 1: Critical thinking inquiry activity
Students test themselves on their prior knowledge on deepfakes. They then complete a pairwork analysis activity where they compare and contrast deepfake videos. Finally, they complete a reflection activity to consolidate their learning. Detailed instructions are included. Helps students prepare for English B Individual Oral - analyse purpose, tone, mood and more!
Resource 2: Reading Comprehension
Students read three authentic texts about deepfakes, and answer 32 reading comprehension questions. INCLUDES BONUS QUESTIONS to reflect on themes and message within texts. Activity is the same format, length, marks and question types as English B Paper 2 Reading HL. A detailed answer key is included.
Resource 3: Listening Comprehension
Students listen to three authentic audio texts about deepfakes, and answer 20 listening comprehension questions. A detailed answer key is included. Activity is the same format, length, marks and question types as English B Paper 2 Listening HL.
Resource 4: Paper 1 Writing
Students choose one writing prompt from three options about deepfakes. They then decide which is the best text type for them to write in, from a list of three choices. They write a text type between 450 - 600 words. Same format and length as English B Paper 1 HL. Includes paper 1 rubrics and extra clarification for Criterion C.
Resource 5: Socratic Seminar
Students listen to an audio text about deepfakes and answer questions. These questions form the foundation for their Socratic Seminar. They are then divided into two groups - the inner and outer circle. The inner circle discusses the article and their answers, using formal sentence starters which are provided as speaking prompts. During this time, the outer circle observes and completes a peer review.
Once they are finished, the groups swap places and repeat the process. Detailed instructions are included.
