This activity gets students engaged with the Chicano Movement as they cover a variety of topics and decades of history with 10 stations.

Topics in the Stations Include:

  • The end of the Mexican-American War and the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo
  • Segregation and Discrimination against Mexican Americans
  • The Bracero Program
  • Farm Workers' Living Conditions
  • The United Farm Workers (UFW), the Delano Grape Strike, and the National Grape Boycott

The activity includes a worksheet which has 2-3 questions for each station. The worksheet will help students digest the stations' material and highlight key information.

Possible Ways to Use This Activity:

  • Stations! Hang up around room and get students moving (Laminate and reuse!)
  • Document packet! Students work in small groups and complete these as a packet
  • Have students access electronically
  • Complete as a teacher-led, whole class activity

The teacher directions include multiple tips and tricks, as well as ideas for using this activity with distance learning or for a digital classroom.

I use this activity with 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students in American History courses. I love using resources covering the Chicano Movement as its an important part of the Civil Rights movement that is too often overlooked.
