Students often struggle with understanding the directions for a given problem. They try to plug in a number for x when all they need to do is simplify the problem and vice a versa for when they need to evaluate. It is also difficult for some students to understand what their answer should look like. Students like it when they get x=5 for an answer because they know that they are done. However, when they get 3x + 6 as an answer they are confused with what the next step is to get the answer.
