Booker T Washington vs WEB DuBois
Students read a short bio of both men, then fill out an organizer comparing their objectives and strategies before analyzing a poem about the 2 men by Dudley Randall. Students retain the information well and good discussion is generated by the poem and an opinion question.

Tall Tale Lesson: John Henry +10 Reading Comprehension Multiple Choice Questions
In this mini-lesson students read a selection to see why a folk song was written about the tall tale hero, John Henry. Then they answer ten multiple choice questions by putting a circle around each correct answer. Along with two colorful drawings of John Henry being a steel driving man, you get two pages of informational text and three stanzas of the John Henry folk song.
