Holiday Song Analysis & Informational Research: "Do They Know It's Christmas?"
Listening to holiday songs in the classroom can add to the spirit of the season, but often those popular songs have an interesting origin and meaning. The song “Do They Know It’s Christmas?” by Band Aid (1984) is one example of “festive” music with a meaningful history. This lesson can stretch over 3+ days and lead to great class discussions about the meaning behind song lyrics.

Why “this” activity?I recently noticed in my 7th & 8th graders summary writing, they struggle to recognize and eliminate redundant phrases. Rather than drill and kill with redundancy examples, I was hoping to find something they might enjoy while linking to a cultural reference.
