Order of Operations Puzzle meets Common Core Standards. This puzzle will give your students practice with simplifying numeric expressions, while problem solving too. This puzzle is designed for students in Grades 6 and up (depending on level). I have used this as an individual, partner, cooperative team activity. Students like the challenge of determining the correct answer (it is self checking) and of creating the final triangle. This puzzle directly addresses both the Common Core Standards for

Unit 7: Systems of Equations7.4 Solve by Elimination with MultiplicationSWBAT solves systems of equations through elimination by finding an opposite-like term, multiplying one or both equations, then by adding the equations to cancel out a variable and solving for one variable. Then plugging in that variable into an original equation and solve for the other variable. Then listing the solution as a coordinate point. Four Fours - An Expression-writing Challenge

Four Fours is a game in which students race to use the four mathematical operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), exponent, square root, factorial, and order of operations to create mathematical expressions for each of the whole numbers 1 through 100. The challenge is that they must use only the digit four and it must be used exactly four times in each expression. This activity is highly engaging as students compete to outsmart each other. Once the "easy" expressions

My favorite thing about using foldable note-taking guides is the PRIDE students take in completing them. There's something different about a tactile resource versus an expected and typical "worksheet" for taking notes. This foldable will help make the process of learning how to simplify expressions using the correct Order of Operations easier for students to digest! Since PEMDAS often breeds misconceptions (such as, that multiplication is performed BEFORE division... not true!) many have modified

I created these order of operations bookmarks to help my 5th grade ELs remember the correct order that they need to use in order to solve complex math problems. I included symbols of each operation to help make the connection between the math vocabulary and what it means. Please feel free to use this as a teaching tool, as a bookmark to hand-out to your students and/or to add into your Smartboard lessons.

Unit 4: Solving Quadratics, 4.2 Solve by square root method. (see 4.1 notes for the previous lesson on factor / graphing). Students use these scaffolded notes / graphic organizers to solve quadratic equations in vertex form by square rooting or the square root method. This is not completing the square. google doc is editable. KEY included in title and at the bottom of the doc. Used in HS math 2.

Unit 2: 2.4 variables on both sides. Used in Math 1 HS classroom. Students solve equations with the variable on both sides by identifying the difference between constant terms and a variable term from Unit 1. Students do walk through problems that have the steps written out. 100 percent editable to your liking on google doc. KEY IS INCLUDED linked in the title TWICE.
