Editable 40 Book Challenge Tracking Sheet | Genre Challenge Tracking
This editable resource aligns with Donalyn Miller's 40 Book Challenge - where students are challenged to read 40 books during a single school year. Biography Unit
For this investigation of prominent people, students read a biography or autobiography of their choice. Then each student selects a project (or projects) from a list of 23 choices. Project choices are varied to provide differentiation based upon student needs, learning styles, and interests. After each project description, students are given a checklist to use for self-assessment. A scoring rubric is included (which can be modified as you and your students see fit).

GATE collaborative unit for cubing
This project is a complete cubing unit built around a single story title for students to evaluate. I used this unit that I designed whole class. My class was divided into six teams. A member of each team completed one side of the cube assignments. As an assessment and to serve as closure for the project we posted the team results on a large wall "GLAD" type grid. Each team shared their results. A class discussions brought out student evaluations of the literature.
