I designed this for my students as we're reading Murder on the Orient Express by Agatha Christie, to help them keep track of all of the characters and the various pieces of evidence throughout the text. This was designed for an 8th grade class, but could be used for grades 6th-12th, depending on the reading level of the students. Murder on the Orient Express is a great book, but might be too advanced (in terms of vocabulary) for some middle school students.

Analyzing the Preamble Activity
In this activity, students break down the Preamble in to 6 different parts by analyzing the word choice of the Preamble, drawing a picture to represent each goal of the Constitution, and creating a caption to represent that drawing. Then the students reflect on which of those goals they see the government successful at today.

Using Frozen for Mood vs Tone
Each year, the use of videos in daily lessons is becoming more and more acceptable -- no essential. This mini-unit takes that into account by comparing two trailers to Disney's Frozen. Students will first watch the official trailer and discuss the tone and mood. Next, they will watch Bobby Burn's edited version.
