I recently used this lesson to introduce the geography unit for Africa in my 7th-grade class. I had my students explore the CNN article and the Ted Talk. After they read the article they answered some reflecting questions on the worksheet to guide their understanding. As a class, we later discussed some of the stereotypes that they read and their reaction towards them. Then I played the middle part of the Ted Talk and had them answer the questions to engage them.
