Pilgrim and Wampanoag Perspectives of The First Thanksgiving | Point of View
In this fully editable lesson, students will read two different perspectives of the first Thanksgiving: one factual and one with common myths.  To extend this activity students can compare and contrast the texts. Then the teacher can provide them with the factual account so students can decide which reading aligns with it. Students must use details from the readings and images to support their opinions of whose story is more accurate, and whether or not we should celebrate Thanksgiving each

This is a lit log for Friends of Freedom The Story of Susan B. Anthony & Frederick Douglass (by Suzanne Slade, illustrated by Nicole Tadgell). It is a great book to read in February (Black History Month) or March (Women's History Month). Themes of this picture book are: civil rights, slavery, abolitionists, suffragists, and social reformers.
The lit log can be used as a guide for a read aloud or for direct reading instruction.

The questions allow my students to engage with the magazine using skills we have learned in our reading curriculum for nonfiction texts. This can also be used for early finisher work or as a team or class points if it is completed the right way the first time (kids follow directions, write in complete sentences, answer ALL questions).
