Credit Card Project -- How long does it really take to pay off the debt?
Every student should understand the ins and outs of credit cards and how easily people fall in the trap of interest payments. Students research their own credit cards, you act as the bank which approves a card, then the students pretend to max it out by buying a few "want" items. They create equations (or excel spreadsheets) to find how long it will take to pay off the debt. This project also goes into a few scenarios such as making a late payment or paying double the minimum required payment

Test Taking Strategies / Follow Directions Prank/Fake Quiz
This quiz is a fun and funny way to get students to realize they need to pay attention to directions.
There is a list of numerous steps to complete, which can actually be fun for students. HOWEVER, the first step says to "read all directions before continuing" and the last step says "only do..." so most students mess this up and do all the steps as they go along. Then you can give them the lesson at the end :)

In this project, students learn how to use polynomial function to model roller coaster rides. In this first part, they are given some polynomial functions to find the relative maximum/minimum, increasing/decreasing intervals, x- and y-intercepts, etc. They will explore the average rate of change. In the second part of the project, students are asked design their own roller coaster given some basic criteria. Students should use graphing devices/computer applications to complete this project.
