Simple Microscope Lab
Here is a quick, traditional introduction to microscope lab. I wrote this for a newcomer ELL class that was just starting to move into science content. These are high school students with a wide variety of backgrounds, some with no formal education in their past and some that had attended private schools in their home country.

This lab was originally written for by beginning ELL students to practice measuring skills. Students need to make a hypothesis, then measure the mass and volume of 5 rocks. Students will calculate the density and make a conclusion.

Factors of solubility Lab
Solubility factors for ESL/Chemistry students. The worksheet/lab allows students to collaborate, listen,speak and write about the factors. Only things needed would be sugar everything else can be replaced. Students learn about solute, solvent, solution, and factors of solubility. This helps for ESL students because it hits all of the language acquisition skills with few pictures for specific tasks.

These are materials that I've created, practiced, and tweaked over the last 3 years of teaching 4th and 5th grade! It's very hard to find good, simple, yet engaging materials to teach NGSS. Especially when most of your class is ELL or SPED, like mine is! So many materials are too hard to read for them, or include science concepts that aren't really in the NGSS.
